Overview
As Community Manager for the City of Brussels' cultural department, I supported the promotion and visibility of Brussels' vibrant cultural life — events, programming, venues and initiatives — to a diverse and multilingual urban audience.
Brussels is a city of many languages and communities. This role demanded genuine cultural sensitivity and an ability to communicate in a way that felt local, welcoming and relevant to a broad public.
Key responsibilities
- Managing social media channels for the cultural department across French, Dutch and English
- Creating and publishing content that promoted cultural events, exhibitions and public programming
- Engaging with local communities, cultural organisations, artists and citizens online
- Covering live cultural events for social media — photography, real-time storytelling and post-production
- Supporting the department's digital editorial calendar and content strategy
- Building an engaged online community around Brussels' cultural identity
What I brought to this role
Working for a public institution in a multilingual, multicultural city like Brussels shaped my understanding of inclusive communication. I learned how to speak to audiences with very different relationships to culture, language and public life — and how to make institutional communication feel genuinely human.
